My current main areas of research interest are seascape connectivity, benthic invertebrates, assemblage, urban ecology, and ecological engineering. I am broadly interested in the relationships between benthic (i.e. seafloor) species and their habitats, with particular interest in the ecological effects of manmade structures.
Some of the more fundamental ecological questions I am interested in are
1) Are communities structured by predictable rules, or are they the result of random chance?
2) What makes a community resistant to threats like invasion or climate change?
3) How does the spatial arrangement and physical structure of habitat patches influence local community assemblage and connectivity?
I want to use insights from these questions to better understand how we can design and manage marine resources to enhance biotic resilience and mitigate disturbance.
